Are you a 2nd officer ready to ascend to the role of Chief Mate? Once you are done with your Phase 1 classes, the first hurdle you'll need to clear is the Chief Mate Phase 1 written assessment. Through this guide will walk you through the application process step-by-step, using the official DG Shipping website ensuring that you approach your exams with confidence. Just follow these steps and you wont have to pay any middleman for applying for Phase 1 exams.
Step 1: Open Mozilla Firefox browser or any old version of Internet Explorer and go to the Official DG Shipping Website
Step 2: Move to the next step towards your Chief Mate Phase 1 Assessment is by clicking on E-GOVERNANCE.
Step 3: On the below page, login with your INDoS number and your profile password.
Step 4: Click on “EXAMINATION”.
Step 5: Click on “ Application for Eligibility Assessment”.
Step 6: Make sure to update your DG Profile with all the valid certificates and sea experience before continuing to the next step. Click Continue only after you have updated your DG Profile and your INDoS photograph. These will be used when Form 29 get generated. Hence it is very important to update your profile and photograph. Take your time in doing this and then click on "Continue".
Step 7: Choose the MMD you want to apply your Chief Mate Phase 1 assessment with and choose the other options as they have been chosen in the below image. Then click Continue. In the next confirmation box, click OK.
Step 8: Click on I Agree on the left side and then click Continue. This will take you to the payments page. Continue and complete the payment using your Debit/Credit card.
Once you are done with the payment, download the payment receipt and close the window. This completes your process for the online part.
Now we take a look at the documents required for applying for Chief Mate Phase 1 Assessment.

Arrange these forms in a green coloured file and courier the file to the institute from where you have done your Phase 1. They will verify all the documents and send that file to the MMD that you chose. That's it. You don't have to go to the MMD for this process. Any issues with your documents will be reflected in your INDoS profile. To check any comments/problems with your application just click on View Application Status after Step 4 above.
