__Greetings!
__We are hiring for General Manager – Commercial Bulk, below mentioned are the details for the same.
__POSITION DESCRIPTION
__General Manager – Commercial Bulk
__PURPOSE
__➢ This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the Business Development strategy to
__accelerate the growth of bulk, RORO & general traffic through Gujarat Port Work pro-actively to attract new
__customers to the port.
__➢ Take active part in the Management team and involved in key strategic decisions for the terminal.
__PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
__➢ Develop volume and revenue budgets and work proactively to ensure budgets are met and eed.
__➢ Prepare business cases for capital investment which provide for appropriate rates of return on investment
__and which contribute to growth of bulk & general cargo volumes through the port. Negotiating and
__preparing stevedoring contracts with all bulk & general customers.
__➢ Establish and chair an Operations Review Group to ensure Operations & Commercial work closely together
__to meet the needs of bulk & general customers.
__➢ Provide Market Intelligence and Market Research. Monitor competitor activity and recommend action
__where necessary.
__➢ Develop & maintain an intimate knowledge of the trading environment for the above commodities and
__ensure management is kept abreast of trends impacting on, or likely to impact on Port.
__➢ Work closely with rail operators to maximise rail utilisation.
__➢ Manage the daily business according to the agreed principles of the business & relationships with
__customers: including:
__➢ Determining appropriate staffing levels, & managing recruitment, competencies, training, education &
__career planning, as per legal & company requirements
__➢ Establishing business priorities to meet the customer requirements and responsible for customer service and
__customer satisfaction survey score.
__➢ Driving continuous improvement in productivity & cost management and responsible for a safe business.
__➢ Select, negotiate & enter into binding agreements with customers & be accountable for execution &
__maintenance of service levels as agreed.
__➢ In close cooperation seeking services as appropriate with Head of Port and Infrastructure to proactively
__pursue development in facilities, technology & systems as applicable locally to improve efficiencies in cost,
__productivity & customer service.
__➢ Recommend appointments & dismissals of own direct reports to Bulk Business Unit Head
__➢ Organise, coach, challenge, & develop staff.
__➢ Recommend remuneration of all staff in the department.
__➢ This position contributes to the establishment longer term business strategy for the terminal operation based
__on the overall company vision & strategy
__➢ The position has predominant authority for the delivery of department results.
__➢ The position will drive subordinated positions to efforts of continuous improvements in order to increase
__productivity or to better manage costs & operational overheads
__REPORTING AND SCOPE
__➢ Direct Reports
__➢ The position reports directly to the Bulk Business Unit Head.
__➢ The position liaises and seeks services from Head of port and infrastructure as appropriate.
__➢ The scope of this position is primarily domestic.
__POSITION DESCRIPTION
__WORK/BUSINESS CONTACTS AND AUTHORITY
__➢ Represents the terminal with General Cargo customers, port authorities and other parties involved in the
__daily operation.
__➢ Meets regularly with other management staff to ensure that business are being executed in accordance with
__the organization’s policies.
__➢ Interacts frequently with other Terminal Business Units to share & implement best practices.
__➢ liaise with Railways at the top level for evacuation of cargo (this is one of the key factors for success at port
__for bulk business)
__➢ Liaise with state and central Government bodies and Ministry for securing cargo and also ensuring
__necessary support is received from the Government for facilitating our business
__➢ Work & business contacts:
__â– Bulk Business Unit Head
__â– Terminal Management team
__â– Local vendors.
__â– Local shipping lines & shipping agents and other customers
__â– Relevant local authorities.
__➢ The position primarily handles issues which are of a divergent nature.
__CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
__➢ Requires as a minimum a college degree. Masters degree in business administration or management highly
__desirable with 15-18 Years of experience in similar field.
__➢ Should be a self starter, who can demonstrate a pro-active and energetic approach to achieving business
__targets and meeting commercial objectives and have significant understanding of bulk & general shipping,
__with particular knowledge of charter party agreements.
__➢ Should be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and give examples where those skills have
__assisted in building & maintaining excellent commercial relationships.
__➢ Requires knowledge of marketing and sales applications in the business sector.
__➢ Requires thorough knowledge of marine terminal operations, the shipping and logistics management
__industry.
__➢ Requires good contacts within the shipping industry, the local communities, and the government.
__➢ Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills.
__➢ Must be able to exercise sound business judgment in order to set direction and establish priorities.
__➢ Requires good managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.
__➢ Requires advanced verbal and written communications skills in English as well as local language, in
__addition to effective interpersonal skills. Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation and
__teamwork. Must have effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
__➢ Requires excellent analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data.
__➢ Requires good time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
__➢ Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment, with an ability to understand the effect of decisions
__overall in the company.
__➢ Must be able to handle company information with confidentiality and discretion
__➢ Knowledge of Liquid and offshore commercial will be additional advantage.
