EOOW UK COC Overview :

The Engine Officer of the Watch (EOOW) is a pivotal role of an officer who is in-charge for marine propulsion systems like engines or turbines. The key responsibilities include monitoring, controlling & coordinating to ensure efficient operations of machinery for safe operating parameters. To be considered for EOOW UK CoC, candidates must fulfill multiple Eligibility criteria, including educational qualifications, courses and certifications.  Qualification Details:

 A relevant engineering degree or diploma in marine engineering or in an engineering subject that covers at least four of the following 6 subjects: 

  • Mathematics, 
  • Engineering Drawing, 
  • Applied Mechanics, 
  • Applied Heat, 
  • Electrotechnology and 
  • Naval Architecture,

 is usually required.

 If you have completed a suitable engineering apprenticeship and training then you will need to apply in writing to the MCA who will assess your training and issue you with an exemption letter (only if you have received the equivalent training)

Trainee marine engineer working for EOOW UK COC

EOOW UK COC Eligibility (TME):

  • Must complete 9 months of sea service aboard merchant vessels, apart from training skills and industry standards
  1. 9 months of seagoing service in merchant ships of at least 750 kW, which includes 6 months engaged in watchkeeping or UMS duties
  2. An Engine Watch Rating Certificate as per STCW regulation III/4;
  3. Have completed an MCA approved Training Record Book (TRB) with workbook supporting your Training Record book (TRB)
  • NARIC letter (obtained from MCA approved nautical college confirming comparable standards of your qualification)- 
  • As per STCW code section A-III/1, you will need to request an LIA (Letter of Initial Assessment) for each individual application
  • A valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate)
  • Qualification to UKVI English Language Test

*It is recommended to apply for NOE at start of the course

 

EOOW UK COC valid courses and certifications (TME):

Besides the above requirements, candidates must have successfully completed the following EOOW UK COC courses and obtained their following certificates before the Certificate of competency (CoC) can be issued by the MCA.

The MCA, UK approved STCW advanced courses are now being done in Mumbai 

The courses include:

  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)
  • Proficiency in survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSC & RB)
  • Advanced Fire fighting
  • Medical First Aid
  • High Voltage (Operational) – Mandatory
  • Helm (Operational) – Mandatory

 

Duration: 5 months (Offline in UK)

Fees: 7895 GBP (It is approx. and may vary)

Start Date: The program runs on a tri-annual basis, with batches starting in March, August & November.

Mode of Conduct: offline in UK campus

 

Conclusion:

Meeting all the above required qualifications allows the candidate to be eligible for Engine officer of the watch (EOOW) UK COC license.
