Application Process:

 

Seats get filled up about 3 months in advance and are allotted on a first come first served basis. Hence, it is always advisable to book early so that you are assured of seat in the college.

The earlier the better so that you can get Visa in time

Common for All:

 

  • Passport – 1st and last page of the passport and address page of the passport.
  • CDC – All the stamp pages of the passport. (36 months of sea service stamps on your CDC)
  • Need company sea-time letter or Masters testimonials for a minimum 36 months of sea service.
  • Valid Medical Fitness Certificate in ANNEXURE IV format from any DG Shipping approved Doctor
  • Notice of Eligibility (NoE) – Students need to apply for a NoE to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), UK to be eligible to sit for the MCA oral examinations in the UK. Students need to apply NOE before applying the course.

                                                                         DECK SIDE:

 

2nd Officer [Officer of the Watch (OOW)]:

 

  • Minimum of 36 months of sea service stamps on your CDC (even non Indian CDC for e.g. Panama, Liberia, Bahamas, Thai, etc. are acceptable).
  • You will also need company sea-time letter or Masters testimonials for a minimum 36 months of sea service. If you have done your sailing with different shipping companies, you will need to take sea-time letter from all those companies so that your total sea-time is atleast 36 months.
  • If you have however taken 36 months of testimonials form your ships Captain, then a company sea-time letter is not compulsory. However, it is good to collect the company sea-time letter also.
  • The 6 months of bridge watch-keeping certificate from the Master (or the company) must mention that you have kept 8 hours of bridge watch-keeping duties every day as assistant to the main watch-keeper whilst the vessel was at sea.

 

Chief Officer (Chief Mate HND Nautical Science Certification):

 

  • Candidates must have completed 12 months watchkeeping service as a Deck Officer while holding an OOW unlimited II/1 Certificate of Competency (CoC), and hold a valid personal medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA.
  • Candidates who completed the NAEST(O) course prior to 1st January 2005 must have completed an MCA approved IMO Model 1.27 ECDIS course before undertaking the NAEST(M) course.
  • Once a Chief Mate CoC has been achieved, candidates must complete 36 months watch-keeping service while holding an OOW unlimited II/1 Certificate of Competency before undertaking examination for Master certification. This period may be reduced to 24 months if at least 12 months of such seagoing service has been served as Chief Mate while holding a Chief Mate unlimited II/2 CoC. Students who have completed more than 36 months of sea service as a Deck Officer can complete their Chief Mates CoC from the UK and then immediately appear for Masters Orals without having to do any additional sea service after Chief Mates CoC to obtain Masters CoC.

 

Master

 

  • Candidates must have completed 36 months’ watch-keeping service while holding an OOW unlimited II/1 Certificate of Competency. This period may be reduced to 24 months if at least 12 months of such seagoing service has been served as Chief Mate while holding a Chief Mate unlimited II/2 Certificate of Competency.

 

                                                                      ENGINEER SIDE :

 

3rd Engineer/ Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Two Routes:

 

  • Chief Engineer testimonials of atleast 24 months (CE Testimonial Sample Format)
  • Watch Rating Certificate (STCW III/4)
  • Record Book (UK MNTB TRB)

 

2nd Engimeer / EOOW (Class 4 FG) Course for Graduate Mechanical / Marine Engineers

 

  • Graduate Mechanical / Marine Engineers having completed sea service of atleast 9 months on vessels with engine power > 750 KW whilst completing the UK MNTB TRB would be eligible for this course.

 

Chief Engineer / Chief Engineer CoC – Class 2 & Class 1

 

Eligibility Class 2 CoC:

 

  • Before undertaking Engineering Knowledge (EK) or MCA Oral examinations, candidates must have completed 12 months seagoing service as an Engineer Officer whilst holding an EOOW III/1 Certificate of Competency on vessels of at least 750 KW in engine power.
  • BOILERS on ship is not a requirement for giving Class II 2nd Engineers CoC exam in UK.

Sailing as Trainee OS, OS, AB, Bosun, Deck Cadet can apply for Office of Watch course.

  • Minimum of 36 months of sea service on merchant ships in an acceptable deck capacity.
  • Should have 6 months of documented bridge watch-keeping duties.
  • UKVI ILETS English Language Test (English language test is a requirement before you can apply for the UK student visa)

  • Candidate who has completed more than 36 months of sea service as a Deck Officer can complete their Chief Mates CoC from the UK and then immediately appear for Masters Orals without having to do any additional sea service after Chief Mates CoC to obtain Masters CoC. Alternatively, someone who has completed 12 months seatime before C/Off’’s license and 12 months after C/Off’s license can also apply

 Yes but you need to do the entire C/Off’s course from UK which means spending another 9 months on the course. YOu will be exempted from the exams though.

The expenses total depends ont he individual lifestyle. 

The approximate living cost is as given below but it will vary from person to person:

  • Accommodation rent: £ 300-500 for non sharing room and £ 100 – 200  for 2 persons sharing the room.
  • £ 100 - 200 monthly for home cooked food
  • Electricity and heating bills: £ 20-50 for heating and electricity bills per month

  • If your course duration is less than 6 months, then you are not allowed to work part-time in the UK. For courses more than 6 months duration, students are allowed to work part-time in the UK if you are studying in a University.
  • Good part-time work opportunities as students stay in the city. By working part-time during course period and full-time during holidays (Easter break, summer vacation and Christmas holidays)
