Introduction:

Second Engineer Officer is a key member of the ship's engineering department. The Officer holds a senior position within the engineering team and communicates with the Chief Engineer.  The duties and responsibilities Includes watchkeeping, supervision, maintenance and repair of the ship`s machinery & equipment to ensure safety. To be considered for EOOW UK COC, candidates must fulfill multiple Eligibility criteria including all the courses and certifications.  Advancing career from Third Engineer officer to Second Engine Officer is a common path for ambitious individuals aiming to take on greater responsibilities and enhance the maritime careers.  To obtain a UK Certificate of Competency (COC) as a Second Engine Officer of the Watch (EOOW), you must meet specific eligibility criteria. This includes completing necessary sea-time and other documentation as mentioned below. Fulfilling these requirements will make you eligible to apply for the EOOW Class 2 UK Certificate of Competency (COC). Once you have submitted your COC application, you will undergo 3 months of on-campus training in the UK. During this training period, there will be an examination that, upon passing, will grant you the COC for Sailing as a Second  Engineer Officer of the Watch.  

 There is NO requirement of any TRAINING RECORD BOOK for giving your Class II EOOW COC in the UK.

Eligibility:

1. 36 months of sea service out of whichhave completed 12 months’ seagoing service as an EOOW, III/1, on vessels of at least engine power 750 kW; Including at least 9 months in full charge of the watch or with designated UMS duties.

2. Apply for LIA (Letter of Initial Assessment)

3. A valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate) or accepted equivalent.

4. UKVI English Language Test (Optional depending on college as it’s less than 6 months course)

*Recommended to apply for NOE at start of the course

Note:  Candidates who have completed their Sea time of 36 months in which 12 months as an EOOW (Fourth Engineer / 3rd Engineer /2nd Engineer) are eligible for Chief Engineer Exams.

 

EOOW UK COC valid courses and certifications: (MCA UK approved)

 Besides the above requirements, candidates must have successfully completed the following courses and obtained their following certificates before the Certificate of competency (COC) can be issued by the MCA.

 The MCA, UK approved STCW advanced courses are now being done in Mumbai 

The courses include:

1. Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)

2. Proficiency in survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSC& RB)

3. Advanced Fire fighting

4. Medical First Aid

5. High Voltage (Management) – Mandatory

6. Helm (Management) – Mandatory

7. Tanker Course and DC Endorsement

EOOW UK COC Courses details: (Second Engineer)

Course Title: Second Engineer Unlimited/ Class II

Duration: 3 months (Offline in UK)

Course Tuition Fees: € 2250  (It is approx. and may vary),  SQA Examination Fee ( External Fee) € 250

 *Valid upto August 2023 & subject to change 

Start Date: The program runs on a tri-annual basis, with batches starting in Jan, April  & September.

Mode of Conduct:  3 months offline in UK campus

Conclusion:

If all the afore-mentioned criteria`s are met, the candidate will qualify for the UK COC Class 2 or Second Engineer Unlimited license
