About the Speaker:

  • Capt. Brar has nearly 25 years of experience in the shipping industry. This includes 17 years of sea-time and 6 years of command time. Has seen both pre- & post- ISM/ISPS/MLC shipping.
  • Currently working with a leading global consultancy in London. Present role includes experience in acting as subject matter expert for container issues, experts for reports in London Arbitration, work for cargo interests for resisting General Average in large vessel container incidents. Also experienced in H&M surveys, P&I surveys, MWS for O&G. Current Flag State Inspector for Malta. Public appearances in numerous international forums in London.
  • Past roles include Flag State Surveyor and trained PSCO for a leading flag state. Also experienced in Maritime Education for cadets, 2/O’s, Masters classes, and Master’s revalidation in India for both modular & short courses under STCW.
  • Holds dual post graduate in Marine Insurance and Maritime Law. Excelled in academice right from Pre-Sea. Stood 1stin batch of 41 cadets with 93.7% all and individually 1st in 4 out of 5 subjects.
  • His career progression: Joined pre-sea at 17 ½, started sailing sea at 18, Third Officer at 21, Second Officer at 23, Chief Officer at 25, Command at 28, Marine Insurance qualification at 33, quit sailing at 34, Masters in Maritime Law by 36, 1st Shore job Nautical surveyor & PSCO by 36 ½, 2nd Shore job by 39 years (current role).
  • Regularly counselling seafarers since 2015 for making the right career choices.

About Sea & Beyond

  • Set up by Capt Rana in 2015 to assisting seafarers make a seamless transition ashore.

About the Speakers


Capt. Amarinder Brar
Marine Manager - MFB Solicitors,

Capt. Amarinder Brar: He is a master mariner with over 25 years of industry experience. This includes 17 years at sea with 6 years of command time, followed by Master of Maritime Law (Merit) from the University of Southampton. He also holds a PG diploma in Marine Insurance from World Maritime University, Malmo. He has worked as Nautical Lecturer in India for all grades of deck competency, a marine surveyor for MCA in UK which included PSC duties, as a Consultant for LOC London serving the maritime legal and insurance sectors. He now works as Marine manager with MFB Solicitors, London where he is involved in both dry and wet shipping disputes.
