"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." –C.S. Lewis

It’s often said that once you know your goal you will achieve it and find ways and means to do it. For most mariners, the 1st and foremost goal is become a Master or Chief Engineer and for most persons within 7-10 years in shipping, a person is now confident of achieving his 1st goal. This is a time when a person goes through different emotions --- feeling of accomplishment, pride, satisfaction.

However once you achieve your 1st goal, you then question yourself what next?

How long would you sail? Whether you want to sail entire life?

After sometime (late 20’s, early 30’s), there is a feeling of anxiety, fear, responsibility, stagnation and uncertainty. This is what we would like to call “quarter life crisis” which is very unique to mariners.

It is very important that a mariner re-sets his goals, his expectations and plans for his 2nd innings (at sea or ashore) to further succeed in life. This is where most confusion lies in terms of what to do next.

Sea and Beyond would like to guide mariners to plan for the inevitable quarter life crisis, reset their goals and plan for the future. In this regard, Sea and Beyond brings to you the sequel of the hugely successful webinar on “Career transition for mariners” by Capt. Harsh Johari.

In the earlier webinar, Capt. Harsh focused on how to plan your career with an assumption that a person knows his goals. In this webinar, we would like to focus on:

a) The need of Re-setting the goal (whether sailing or shifting ashore)

b) Getting more clarity on your thought process on way forward

c) Self-reflection and discovery of what is really important to you

d) How do you re-set a goal

e) How can you choose a function/area which could be relevant to your personality and vision in life

Through the webinar, you would have a high-level overview of re-setting the goals but a very personalized goal-setting may not be possible in the webinar.

Capt. Harsh has been a sailor and has sailed for 15 years including 3 years as Master. He completed his MBA from IIM-A in 2010 and worked for Goldman Sachs as Regional Head - Payments/Treasury and Risk & Control Operations.

He is now on his own working as Executive & Leadership Coach & Training Consultant. He provides personalized coaching to C-suite executives to help them unlock their true leadership potential. His clients include senior leaders (CXOs, National Heads, SVPs) from industries such as finance, shipping, consulting and technology.

He is an ICF PCC Coach, certified Intelligent Leadership Coach (by John Mattone former coach of Steve Jobs) and certified Happiness Coach (Berkeley Institute of Wellbeing)

At the end of the webinar, you would have:

  • A DIY ( Do It Yourself ) framework to help you gain more clarity on what should be your next steps
  • Understand what really matters to you
  • Questions to help you understand whether you should switch careers or not
  • Typical opportunities available outside maritime sector and how to identify them
  • How to build your profile for non-maritime - self realization and resume
  • Whether you need to up skill or not

It would be preferable to have some of your questions emailed before the webinar in order to help you best. Keep your questions thematic in nature and not personal so that others can benefit from it
