Capt. Brar has dealt with incidents which has required legal counselling during his sea career and in his present role.  He has:

  • Over 6 years of command experience.
  • Over 17 years of experience on ships
  • Holds a Master’s in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton, a Russel Group University
  • Holds a PGD in Marine Insurance from World Maritime University, Malmo
  • A former Flag State Surveyor for MCA UK and trained PSCO for Paris MoU
  • A current Flag State Inspector for Transport Malta
  • Currently a consultant London for law firms, marine insurers, ship owners, ship managers, training instructors an private entities
  • Member of CMMI and Associate Fellow of NI
  • Stood first in his Pre-Sea Batch, passed all MMD exams in the first instance, and has excelled at his sea and shore career (Pre Sea at 17, OOW at 20, Chief Mate at 24, Master at 28, Maritime Lawyer by  35, Flag State Surveyor by 36 and Consultant/Surveyor at 39 years of age)

The webinar would consist of the following:

  • A 30-35 minute presentation by Capt. Brar where he would discussion the above mentioned topics based on his personal experience
  • 20-25 minutes of Q&A wherein Capt. Brar would take questions

About the Speakers


Capt. Amarinder Brar
Marine Manager - MFB Solicitors,

Capt. Amarinder Brar: He is a master mariner with over 25 years of industry experience. This includes 17 years at sea with 6 years of command time, followed by Master of Maritime Law (Merit) from the University of Southampton. He also holds a PG diploma in Marine Insurance from World Maritime University, Malmo. He has worked as Nautical Lecturer in India for all grades of deck competency, a marine surveyor for MCA in UK which included PSC duties, as a Consultant for LOC London serving the maritime legal and insurance sectors. He now works as Marine manager with MFB Solicitors, London where he is involved in both dry and wet shipping disputes.
