Sustainability is a big word and covers various aspects in different industries. It has been used by different stakeholders with varying perspectives. In this webinar, we would like to present the fundamentals of sustainability and how it is affecting the industry, the initiatives and all our lives.
In this webinar we will just touch the fundamentals and provide an overview, before we delve deep into holding a separate discussion with each of these stakeholders in a separate discussion in the weeks to follow.
Following are the topics which would be discussed:
- What is ESG and it’s effect worldwide and more specifically the maritime industry?
- How have the ESG’s mandate been incorporated by IMO and in what way is it effecting the way we operate vessels, the social and governance aspects in maritime industry
- What are the various functions into sustainability
- Emission control
- Vessel performance
- Vessel routing
- What is the impact of each of these on various stakeholders
- How does technology help in meeting the needs of various stakeholders
- How does it affect the sailing staff
- What can we as mariners do to ensure we are upskilled and updated to meet the new and ever-changing mandates from the industry
The webinar would consist of the following:
- A 30-35 minutes presentation by the presenters form the institute
- 20-25 minutes of Q&A wherein the presenters would take questions
- A quick feedback survey about the webinar

About the Speakers
Uttam Kumar
Director of Product Management ( Singapore),Uttam Kumar has sailed as a 3rd Engineer with Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd until 2009, before deciding to do MBA from North Carolina State University, USA. He is currently working as Director of Product Management in a leading ship management company. He is passionate about sustainability and is a digital product development and technology leader with years of experience in both product and project management and enabling clients to achieve business excellence using data analytics, artificial intelligence and digital technology.
He is committed to creating solutions that bridge the gap between technology and sustainability in the maritime sector.
Capt. John Bosco Moniz
Master Mariner, Sr Manager Performance , Head of Nautical Performance Anglo Eastern,He sailed as a master mariner from Anglo-Eastern Ship Management Ltd. He is spearheading the Fleet Performance Center in Mumbai, a hub for implementing digital solutions and fostering a sustainable culture shift within the organization, the environment, and beyond.
He is a firm advocate for using technology to streamline processes, optimize vessel performance, and improve safety. With prior experience as a QHSE Superintendent, he is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
