Many seafarers choose to switch to shore-based careers due to a variety of reasons, including the desire for a more stable and fulfilling life, better access to healthcare and family, and a need for more consistent work-life balance. These factors can impact mental and physical health, contributing to a decision to seek more predictable and less stressful shore-based employment.
Are you thinking of transitioning ashore? And you have below questions in your mind.

b) When is the right time to transition?
c) Do I wait to become a master or Chief engineer?
d) Once I decide to take a shore job, which is the field for me?
e) How do I plan the transition?
In order to address these issues, Sea and Beyond is planning a webinar with Capt. Gaurav Rana where he would discuss on:
a) Relevance of shore job for an individual
b) What are the options available?
c) What are the various routes which we could take for a shore job?
d) How do we apply for various jobs?
e) What do companies expect?
We will also call various people who would share their transition stories and how it has worked for them.

Capt. Gaurav has had following transitions in his career:
- Shifted from sea to shore when he started working for British Maritime Technology in 2010 (4 years)
- Planning and completion of his MBA from IIM- Ahmedabad
- Selection in IBM and worked there for 4 years
- Entrepreneurship (Manages Sea and Beyond)
Capt. Gaurav Rana would have mentored at least 100 mariners and non-mariners including people who are working ashore and have the required skills, experience and knowledge to help you as well.
We will also launch our "Coming Ashore" program, which offers structured support, mentoring, and training, can assist in your career shift. With thoughtful preparation and the right support, you can navigate this transition successfully and embark on a fulfilling shore-based career.
The webinar would consist of the following:
- A 40-minute presentation by Capt. Gaurav Rana
- 20-25 minutes of Q&A wherein the presenters would take questions
- A quick feedback survey about the webinar

- Passed MICS with distinction in 2011
- Sailed for 13 years
- Worked as Technical Director in British Maritime Technology for 4 years
- Worked in IBM for 4 years where he program managed large data analytics projects
- Passionate about Learning and development and growth of maritime community
